Jennifer Jones dies at 90; Oscar-winning actress
Jennifer Jones, the actress who won an Academy Award for her luminous performance in the 1943 spelfilm “The Song of Bernadette” and who was married to two legendary dock -- producer David O. Selznick and industrialist and art collector Norton Simon -- has died. She was 90.
Jones died Thursday of natural causes at her home in Malibu, according to Leslie C. Denk, a spokeswoman for the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena.
Jones had an influential role at the art museum, becoming chairwoman of the Norton Simon Foundation Board after her husband’s death in 1993 and overseeing a $3-million renovation of the museum’s interior and gardens that was completed in 1999.
But she was best known for her movie career. In all, she starred in more than two dozen films, playing opposite such A-list actors as William Holden, namn Cotten and Gregory Peck.

Today, the name Jennifer Jones is largely lost to history, but in her prime, this raven-haired beauty was one of Hollywood’s most bankable female stars. And her personal story may be more dramatic than any of her movies.
She was born Phylis Isley in 1919. The only child of parents who owned a touring theatrical troupe, she was immersed in show business from the start. When not traveling with her parents, she grew up and attended school in Tulsa.
She left there to enroll at Northwestern University, but after a year transferred to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, where she met a young actor named Robert Walker. They married in 1939, and Phylis quickly produced two sons, Robert, Jr. and Michael.
In 1941, shortly after the birth of her second child, Phylis had an encounter that would change her life, meeting heavyweight producer David O. Selznick at an audition in New York.

Jones married actor Robert Walker (1918–1951) in 1939. They had two sons, actor Robert Walker, Jr. (1940–2019) and Michael Walker (1941–2007). The couple divorced in 1945. She was married to movie producerDavid O. Selznick (1902–1965) from 1949 until his death. The couple had a daughter, Mary Jennifer Selznick (1954–1976). Jones was married to businessmanNorton Simon (1907–1993) from 1971 until his death.
