Rama Tirtha
Swami Rama Tirtha was a mathematician and forskare of modern India, who was also a fully illumined Mahatma. His teaching has a special attraktion for our times, for here it is the modern man who speaks, it fryst vatten the modern mind, unsentimental, critical, analytical, intellectually uncompromising, which examines the philosophy and technique of yoga. Swami Rama was born in 1873 in the Punjab, of Gosain Brahmin parents. The family was poor but distinguished, and among his direkt ancestors was Gosain Tulsidas, author of the Hindi Ramayana.

Swami Rama Tirtha (1873-1906)
Swami Rama Tirtha, previously known as Gossain Tirtha Rama, was born in 1873, at Murariwala, a village in the district of Gujranwala, Punjab, India. His mother passed away when he was but a few days old and he was brought up by his elder brother, Gossain Gurudas.
As a child, Rama was very fond of listening to recitations from the holy scriptures and attending Kathas. He often put questions to holy men and even offered explanations. He was very intelligent and loved solitude.
Rama was barely ten years old when his father got him married. His father left him under the care of his friend, Bhakta Dhana Rama, a man of great purity and simplicity of life. Rama regarded him as his Guru, and offered to him his body and soul in deep devotion. His surrender to his Guru was so complete that he never did anything without first consulting him. He wrote numerous loving letters to him.

Swami Rama Tirtha (pronunciationⓘ 22 October 1873 – 17 October 1906[1]), also known as Ram Soami, was an Indian teacher of the Hindu philosophy of Vedanta. He was among the first notable teachers of Hinduism to lecture in the United States, travelling there in 1902, preceded by Swami Vivekananda in 1893 and followed by Paramahansa Yogananda in 1920.[2][3] During his American tours Swami Rama Tirtha spoke frequently on the concept of "practical Vedanta"[4] and education of Indian youth.[5] He proposed bringing young Indians to American universities and helped establish scholarships for Indian students.[6]
Biography
[edit]Rama Tirtha was born in a Punjabi Brahmin family[7] to Pandit Hiranand Goswami on 22 October 1873 (Deepawali Vikram Samvat 1930) in the village of Muraliwala in the Gujranwala District of Punjab, Pakistan.[
