    Deaf and mute Geeta has returned home from Pakistan after 12 years, thanks largely to the Salman Khan starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The reel life story of this film’s main character, Shahida aka Munni, mirrors Geeta’s real life. The waves that the film made with its rare sensitive portrayal of cross-border characters stirred an inert bureaucracy into action.

    Geeta was found alone on the Samjhauta Express in Lahore. She had somehow boarded this crossborder train after attending a fair on the Indian side of Punjab. But she was loved and cared for deeply in Pakistan, so much so that a small temple with several deities was built for her to pray when her hosts realised she was a Hindu.
