The first time we heard System Tazvida, he was that raw, refreshingly rural lead voice on Mabhauwa. And that was why we loved him; unadulterated, raw on that whole I-don’t-care-what-you-think-about-me vibe.
The first time we actually got to see him, he was berating greedy bosses in his video Mushandi Ndimambo, the song that launched his solo career. The track dropped at a time the country was gripped with strikes and job cuts, as the full impact of ESAP began to take its toll. It resonated widely with the working class.
With a fresh sound and colourful shirts, one would have figured he was a new kid in the game. But, by then, he had been around for a decade, finding his way up in a career that included working as a doorman for Leonard Dembo’s early band, The Spiders.
