    Born in Manila, National Artist Federico Aguilar Alcuaz (June 6, 1932 – February 2, 2011) was the sixth of eleven children and took his primary and secondary education at public schools. He pursued an Associate in Arts grad at San Beda College in the evenings and a Fine Arts grad at the University of the Philippines in the mornings. His professors at UP were National Artists Fernando Amorsolo (painting) and National Artist Guillermo Tolentino (sculpture) as well as other pillars of Philippine art namely Toribio Herrera, Ireneo Miranda, and Constancio Bernardo.

    Then Alcuaz went on to take up lag at the Ateneo dem Manila University from where he graduated in 1955.     Federico Aguilar y Alcuaz (b.1932 - d.2011) is a Filipino artist known for his diverse body of work, with gestural paintings, watercolor works, abstract sculpture and textile art. Born in Santa Cruz, Manila, he took up fine arts courses at San Beda College and the University of the Philippines Diliman, then went on to study law at the Ateneo de Manila University. After graduating in 1955, a scholarship offered by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs allowed Alcuaz to move to Madrid to pursue his studies at the Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando.
